Playing with the night light
| Client | Sake shop Yamao (Kozu city, Shimane) |
|---|---|
| Work | Shop entrance / Traditional kumiko |
| 組子紋様 | |
| Materials | Spruce / transparent glass |
In this “Kakuasa” pattern, the hemp leaf designs are shaped in the base squares that intersect at right angles. It is a traditional pattern used in writing room’s shoji, and is a popular kumiko design. Used with lines and check patterns, it can be used in tetris-like playful expressions.
Here, we drew the shop’s sign with the square hemp. It took time to produce, but shows great presence as an entrance, and can be brightly seen from the main street.
